Forklift Training Cost

How Much Does Forklift Training Cost?

low costIn-Person Certification: Up to $200average costOnline Certification: $50-$200

Forklift operators are trained to work with high lift trucks, forklift trucks, tough terrain trucks, rider trucks, pallet trucks and counterbalanced trucks. In addition to using forklifts, workers may be in charge of warehouse inventory, labeling goods, equipment maintenance, loading and unloading deliveries and keeping track of business transactions. Since no formal degree program is required for forklift drivers, a typical career path might involve working in a warehouse and being mentored on the job by an experienced forklift operator, according to Education Portal[1] .

Typical costs:

  • Online forklift certification courses cost $50-$200. Certify Me[2] offers online forklift certification courses from $50. Students can specialize in warehouse forklifts, rough terrain forklifts or pallet jacks and order pickers. For $110, forklift operators can take an online course to become qualified forklift safety trainers for their company or organization. Forklift Certification[3] offers self-paced online training for $149, which covers OSHA safety standards.
  • In-person forklift certification courses costs up to $200 and typically lasts one or two days. Training may be handled in-house by an employer or by an outside trainer. Cuyahoga Community College[4] in Cleveland, OH, offers a one-day forklift operator training course for $200. The class runs eight hours with a maximum of four students, who receive hands-on equipment training in a warehouse. Upon completion, students receive a certificate and an operator's license. Forklift Academy[5] offers courses in Santa Fe Springs, CA, for $150. The one-day class runs six hours and includes classroom and hands-on training, safety, and a written test. After the class, a certificate and operator ID card are issued and course graduates will be assisted with job placement through local companies or temporary agencies.

Additional costs:
  • Companies seeking to purchase a forklift operator certification program, for training employees, may pay $300 or more for a kit. For instance, the program from Forklift Certification[7] costs $314 shipped and includes 20 operator cards and certificates, PowerPoint presentations, evaluation checklists, a binder and trainer's log.
Discounts:
  • Employees may be trained to operate a forklift by an employer at no cost in a formal or informal training program.
Shopping for forklift training:
  • The Occupational Safety and Health Administration offers standards for employers wishing to implement a forklift certification program, as well as a sample test for forklift operators which lists the skills a certified forklift operator should be able to demonstrate.
